--- Цитат ---Among the linguistic minorities that have inhabited the Albanian lands, the Vlachs (or Aromanians) have undoubtedly had the widest spread. The genetic origin of the Vlachs is not only important for the history of these peoples, but also for the history of the Balkans in general, and in particular for the history of the Albanians.

1. Introduction
Before the results, without further ado, it should be mentioned that linguistic data suggest that the ancestors of the Vlachs and Romanians lived somewhere in the central Balkans, between the Jireček line and the Danube, until around the 10th century, when the ancestors of the Vlachs spread in several directions (mainly towards south), while the ancestors of the Romanians moved later towards the north-east. The linguistic affinities between Albanians, Vlachs and Romanians have been understood by various authors as a consequence either of close relations between these groups in antiquity or the Middle Ages, or of their common descent from a Paleo-Balkan group that was partially Latinized.

The calculation of the percentage of haplogroups among the Vlachs is made somewhat difficult by the ambiguous or uncertain identification of some families, both in Albania and abroad. Out of over 1500 members of the project, 25 recognize their paternal origin as Vlachs in family tradition, three other families are unsure, while another one has a Vlach-Albanian identity according to tradition. These last four families have the results E-Y18556, I-FGC22045, J-Y226157 and R-FGC40202 and are included in the table below. Anyone who wants to know just the results of the first group of 25 members need only remove these four results from the table.

2. Remote ancestry
The champion needs to expand but some conclusions are clear even with so many results. First, the vast majority of paternal lines are descended from ancient Balkan tribes, similar to Albanian lines in general. Even the percentage of lines with Slavic origin is a little lower but still approximate (3/29, 10.3%). The absence of R1a-M417 is noticeable and should be reviewed with more results. Whereas I1-M253 lines of German origin are more frequent than in general in the Albanian lands (5/29, 17.2%). If this difference does not fade with the addition of results, it is possible that these lines represent a slightly greater genetic contribution to the Vlachs of the Germanic tribes that were integrated into the Roman military system. So, regarding distant ancestry, the density of haplogroups clearly shows that most of the paternal ancestors of the Vlachs were in the Balkans since ancient times, while a minority settled in Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages.

3. Medieval spread
Of the 29 results, 17 can be classified with certainty in a specific sub-branch that allows the calculation of genetic distances with other test subjects, and that enable us to draw some conclusions about the Middle Ages as well. In these 17 results we have two lines, J-Y297646 & E-FT17132, which are related to Albanian results respectively from the Bronze Age and from Antiquity, indicating the ancient connections between the ancestors of Albanians and Vlachs.

But the main part has about 1000-1500 years of connection with Albanians and other Balkans. The lines I-A480, I-FGC22045, J-Y226157, R-Y83965, R-Y264762 belong to this group and are related to Albanian and other Balkan results in about 1000-1500 years. This group of lines is characterized by an age of 1000-1500 years and a wide Balkan spread that includes Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia and in some cases Romania, North Macedonia and Montenegro. From the diversity and age, it seems quite clear that these paternal lines spread during the early and middle ages from an area of the central Balkans (probably Kosovo, northern Macedonia, southeastern Serbia). It should be added that even among the Romanians there are some paternal lines of similar age and diversity, which suggests that there was a migration from the same regions to the northeast, as is also historically proven. So, in this respect, the genetic data match the linguistic data that speak of distribution from the same area or from neighboring countries in the Middle Ages.

4. Today's distribution
Regarding today's distribution of Vlachs in Albania, due to the mobile nature of the population, it is not easy to follow accurately. However, we already have two paternal lines E-FT17132 and R-Y264762 with 3 families of Vlach origin. One is found in Kavajë (according to tradition originating from Voskopoja), Korçë and Përmet, the other in Korçë (according to tradition originating from Frashëri), Përmet and Gjirokastër. So southeast Albania seems to have been the place from where a good part of the Vlach families were dispersed, which is consistent with the known historical data for the area as well as with the family tradition of some of the project's member families. More results are needed to draw more detailed conclusions, therefore we call on everyone interested to perform a Y-DNA test and join the Albanian DNA Project "Roots"
