Истраживања о Румунима су још увек оскудна, па их зато нисам споменуо. Бугари R1b нису бројни али су активни у тестирању, па је захваљујући њима призната подгрупа R1b1a2a2d. Несумњиво је реч о подгрупи заступљеној и међу Хрватима, Арбанасима и Србима.

С друге стране, у истраживању о носиоцима презимена Басараб, чије је резултате поставио Бане избројао сам 8 хаплотипова старе и 8 хаплотива новије гране R1b.

Према томе испада да отприлике 7 процената Румуна спада у старију грану R1b, што је чини значајном групом за њихову етногенезу, али не баш и носећом.

Моја радна претпоставка је да су носиоци R1ba2a2 хаплогрупе у античко доба били Мези, сродни Јерменима, код којих је R1ba2a2 појединачно најбројнија група.

2010. године тестиране су 122 особе из југоисточне Румуније (17 маркера).

We analyzed one hundred twenty-two unrelated males from nine counties of the Romania South-East region, as follows: Argeş (2 samples), Călăraşi (52), Constanţa (5), Dâmboviţa (6), Ialomiţa (2), Olt (19), Prahova (4), Teleorman (4) and Vrancea (28). The region of the Romanian capital city, Bucharest, was excluded from the study.

На основу ових резултата, аутори су дошли до закључка да су Румунима генетски најближи Македонци, Срби, Бошњаци и Хрвати.

"Vlad III The Impaler, also known as Dracula, descended from the dynasty of Basarab, the first rulers of independent Wallachia, in present Romania. Whether this dynasty is of Cuman (an admixed Turkic people that reached Wallachia from the East in the 11th century) or of local Romanian (Vlach) origin is debated among historians. Earlier studies have demonstrated the value of investigating the Y chromosome of men bearing a historical name, in order to identify their genetic origin. ...... The Basarab sample clusters into 11 lineages (Table 2), with six main lineages comprising 82.8% of the samples. Some lineages such as J-M241 and E-V13 are over-represented in the Basarab compared to the general Romanians."

Ovo ocigledno nije korektno jer zbir frekvencija svih haplogrupa daje 105,7%. Izgleda da su uzimali rezultate iz razlicitih radova i pravili kombinacije po njima znanom sablonu (konkretno frekvenciju I2a su verovatno uzeli odavde: https://edoc.ub.uni-muenchen.de/5868/1/Varzari_Alexander.pdf). Moja je greska sto nisam proverio pre postovanja.
Bez obzira na to, studija je vrlo vredna jer sadrzi veliku kolicinu podataka i analize sa razlicitih aspekata. Podaci su korektni u slucajevim kada su uzeti iz jedne studije (bez kombinacija).
