Tecan Evo 200 processing Y-SNPs

This sequence demonstrates Family Tree DNA’s automated PCR setup. All mtDNA and Y SNP orders are set up using the Tecan Freedom Evo® 200 liquid handler. Once an order is placed, a technician simply sets up all of the necessary reagents on the deck of and the robot will automatically add everything to the reaction, including DNA, the correct primer pair, and all other necessary reagents. Using this fully automated process increases both the throughput of samples and the accuracy of results. Shown here is the setup of our Deep Clade and Advanced SNP orders. The Tecan is also used to perform DNA extraction - following an initial manual setup, the completely hands free procedure can process 96 buccal swabs in approximately 90 minutes.
