The Coat of Arms of the City of Skopje was only discovered on the book covers of volumes in the private collection of King Alexander Karadjordjevic, as recently as 2007. Here, the Arms of Skopje are shown together with the Arms of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, which are given in line drawing, embossed in gold on the cover of the albums. The appearance of the Arms is similar to that of today, with the bridge on the Arms having 4 arches. The shield is in the Spanish style and it is crowned with “the crown of Tsar Dushan”. King Alexander was assassinated in Marseilles on 9th October 1934, which means that the Arms of Skopje were established prior to that date. Given that the Arms of the city of Belgrade were established at the end of 1931, it establishes that the Arms of the City of Skopje must have come into being between 1932 and 1934.
